‘It’s the hour of silent prayer together that makes the retreat. It’s awesome….’
‘The music was brilliant…..’
‘I just felt more alive as I journeyed home.’
Since then thousands of Anglicans have been encouraged and strengthened in their faith by the lively worship and clear teaching, by the times of corporate stillness, and fellowship offered during the retreat programme.
Now we have a new and more convenient venue at the Pontins holiday camp in Pakefield, just south of Lowestoft. Offering a more compact site with a hotel style accommodation and a reputation for friendly and efficient service, you can be sure that the retreat will be a time of renewal, relaxation and refreshment.
You can secure your place by completing and sending the attached application form to the retreat office in Horsham.
The retreat begins with Evening Prayer on Monday April 16th and concludes after the Eucharist on the morning of Friday 20th April.
Bishop Lindsay Urwin OGS reflects on ‘Continuing Wonder’, the theme of the Pakefield Retreat 2007…….
In the New Testament, the texts that describe the period between Maundy Thursday and the Lord’s Ascension are full of wonder and action. But in them we also find Jesus gently unfolding to his disciples the reliable ways in which they, and all those who will believe in him, continue to encounter him ‘until he comes again’.
These are the ‘fresh expressions of Christ’ – the washing of another’s feet; the experience of wounds; the Holy Scriptures unfolded; sacramental action; the love of the brethren.
The Stardust Ballroom at Pakefield will become a place where in our Bible studies and keynote addresses and in our worship we will not only learn more about these ‘fresh touches from Christ’, we will experience them! And there will be more opportunities in seminars to talk about practical ways we can so love these expressions that others will discover their power to transform lives.
This is an opportunity not to be missed!

The new venue at Pakefield is a very compact site with all the venues close together. It is a very well kept and attractive site with landscaped gardens dotted around. There is a swimming pool, pitch and putt golf course and even a rifle range! The accommodation is set out in such a way that there are no ‘long hikes’ from far flung chalets!
The restaurant block also accommodates the bar area which is large and very comfortable. The restaurant boasts lovely sea views.
The accommodation is similar to hotel type rooms. Each unit has TV, tea and coffee making facilities and en suite bathrooms. There is a limited amount of single units and these will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
